Hello POTM Customers,
In 2013, I started Pocahontas County Produce on the Move! out of the back of my truck. I traveled the county, picking up produce, boxing and delivering it to restaurants and camps. In 2014, we were able to locate in the old Pocahontas Woods Building on 3rd Avenue in Marlinton, aggregate the produce of more growers, and start a CSA. Whether you have been a CSA subscriber, a walk-in customer, a restaurant owner or a camp director, you have made this experiment in local food aggregation and distribution possible. Alas, in its current form, this experiment has come to an end.
It has been a good run! Suffice it to say, as challenging as it has been to meet a production quota every Thursday for 6 months out of the year, I'm going to miss it. Most of all, I'm going to miss seeing you all on a regular basis. Each of you has made me feel like a real Pocahontas Countian. While I am indeed a "come here," you've made me believe I belong here.
I don't intend to stop growing veggies and fruits and raising chickens and goats. Or making teas and jams and soaps! However, I'm not yet certain what form my future local food collaborations will take. I expect to have a better idea by the end of June. I'll certainly keep you posted.
Right now at Brightside, we've got mixed greens, herbs and eggs. Free range organic chicken AND duck eggs this year! :-) As the season progresses, I will likely be able to swing a weekly or bi-weekly drop off of Brightside produce at GBO. And perhaps in Marlinton as well, since I am usually in town one day a week for other community endeavors. If you are interested in such a service, please let me know, as your level of interest will help me know where to focus my energy. The POTM webpage could be redesigned as a weekly order form...if you're interested. As the season progresses, I'd love to have you visit up here at Brightside and pick right alongside me. Just drop me an email and let me know when you're coming.
I have a bad habit of going on and on. So I'll stop here. :-)
Please stay in touch.
All my best,
