Allegheny Highlands Alliance
Allegheny Highlands Alliance (AHA) is a not-for-profit educational organization formed in the fall of 2009. The purpose of the Alliance is to offer resources and support services to groups and individuals working to compel government and industry to provide sustainable, reliable energy for the people of the mountainous, rural regions of the eastern U.S.
Although created in response to regional wind energy projects that have proven to be high-cost, low-benefit boondoggles, AHA is not an anti-wind-energy organization so much as a pro-smart-energy organization. AHA members believe that education is the key to the development of rational energy policy, and to the wise use of American tax dollars in developing truly sustainable (endlessly renewable) energy supplies.
AHA has organizational members in WV, VA, MD, PA, and NC, including:
Friends of Beautiful Pendleton County
Laurel Mountain Preservation Association
Allegheny Front Alliance
Mountain Communities for Responsible Energy
Friends of the Allegheny Front
Friends of Blackwater Canyon
